Passed some failed some but innocent!!

I passed my first 2 polygraphs with no deception (on cheating). I took #3 on arranging to meet a man or cheat and passed. We found out the next day that he was not on an association so my husband made me take another one the same day with only a few hours notice (and the first day on a new job where I had to leave early). I took #4 on arranging to meet a man and arranging to cheat on my husband and failed. I wasn't feeling well, very hungry, had been arguing some and were late. 4 days later and a lot more arguing I took #5 on arranging to meet a man and cheating and failed. We waited a month and I took #6 on arranging to meet a man or cheat and passed. So I thought we were done with this. But because I previously failed 2 he didn't believe it. 6 months later (2days ago) he made me take another one. It was on arranging and cheating and I failed. I don't think it was a proper test. I was sick and still am with bronchitis. I told the examiner I was sick and what I was taking. The issues were the control questions were not normal, the blood pressure cuff was not squeezed before each chart only once before the pretest and the skin-conductance measurement wires and the blood pressure cuff were both on the left hand and arm. The control questions were as follows:
1. Did you ever lie to _____?
2. Did you flirt with anyone since being married?
3. Would you cheat on _____ in the future if you thought you could get away with it?
4. Have you ever seriously thought of cheating on ____ in the past?

With control question one I passed with relevant question #3.
With control questions 2 thru 4 I failed the other 2 relevant questions that had to do with arranging to cheat and cheating.
I have already passed polygraphs on cheating and arranging and don't understand how I failed. Also it was on analog.

Can someone please help me?? I was told that the control questions were not very good and I had no chance of passing but my husband wants more then one opinion.
Thank you for the help!!

suzy,

The entire methodology of polygraphy is fatally flawed. Probable-lie "control" questions, no matter how cleverly crafted, cannot provide meaningful "control" within the scientific sense of the word. Polygraphy is junk science.

It is unreasonable and unfair for you to be put in the position of having to explain why an invalid test produced erroneous results. Why do you put up with such abuse?

Instead of throwing good money after bad on additional polygraph "tests," you might want to consult a divorce lawyer regarding your options.

It is very hard mentally to have to keep going through this and very depressing. I have told him there will not be another test ever. As much as I love him I would have to get a divorce. The mental abuse is not worth it. But could he use the failed ones against me if we were ever to get a divorce? Even though I have already passed on the same topic? I never did anything wrong and very depressed over this whole thing. These polygraphs completely ruin your life! Cry

In some civil proceedings in some jurisdictions, polygraph "evidence" may be considered. It would be best to consult with a local attorney regarding what consideration, if any, might be given to your polygraph results in any divorce proceeding.

Polygraphs certainly can ruin people's lives. Polygraph operators marketing so-called "fidelity testing" are among the lowest forms of bottom feeders, in my opinion.

If it's any comfort, you're not alone. See for example, Gary Smith's public statement:
