My question is simply this. If you have filled out and submitted a SF 86, will you always have to do a polygraph? I cannot discern from reading here if it is only for TS clearances or people applying with FBI, CIA, etc. I personally know that I will only be needing a secret clearance and will be working as a contractor. Any help on the subject would be great. I am just mainly curious if a polygraph will accompany anyone that fills out the 86 or not?

I just found some really helpful info on this site. There is a link to Laws and Procedures of the Security Clearance.  As the job I am applying for may be  under DOD or State Dept, it appears that there is no Poly needed. Again anyone that can shed light on this would be appreciated.

Thanks

Only some agencies Poly.  State DEFINITELY DOES NOT.  Most top secrets do not require polys.  Top secrets with SCI do for CIA, FBI, NSA, DEA, USS, and a handful of other agencies.
