Will Diabetes hurt my chances for Law Enforcement?

I have been Diabetic for 11 years. Will this be a problem for a federal law enforcement agency? Or will it hurt your chances for local law enforcement?

  Unfortunatly, the answer is yes.  The American Diabetes Association is currently involved in several law suits of diabetic applicants for federal law enforcement jobs.  The REALLY sad this is, if you are denied the job and are a well controlled diabetic, you have no protection under the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 because you will not qualify as a disabled individual within the meaning of the law.  (As decided in the Supreme Court case of Sutton v. United Airlines.)  My advice:  if you are seeking a job in federal law enforcement.....find another career!

Also unfortunatly, The Sup. Ct., in Garrett, knocked down Title 1 of the ADA (employment). States and Feds cannot be sued for damages from a person who has been turned down because of disabilities.
