I wanted to share my thoughts on the Polygraph and could not think of a better place to do so. I will start by saying that I am currently twenty years old and am applying to the FHP with the required college experience. I have been talking to my step dad who has at least 25 years in LE. Not to babble on about him but i first want to share he was born in the early 60's and raised in the Bronx. It was pretty bad you can imagine it was more like poverty. He was employed by the age of 23 to work for NYPD. He said they had a Polygraph then. He worked there for 15+ years and was even on the Counter Terrorism Task Force for them. He eventually moved to TPD (Tampa) where he worked for them many years. Now that I am starting my application process with FHP he has been giving me some of the knowledge he has learned since I have been pursuing my career. He told me he clearly did far worse than me when he was younger and passed every polygraph. He says to this day he will always be able to beat the poly. I asked him what I should do for mine and he said to deny anything and act innocent pretty much. Coming from someone with this experience and "status" its confusing on what to do. I do not have any record AT ALL and all of those bad friends i had in high school I completely moved away from and lost touch with years ago. The lesson to this story I guess is to stick to your guns and to take those secrets that can't be proven to the grave. :-X As long as you learn from them. I will post my poly experience.
