Possible plot to kill Florida Gov. Jeb Bush under investigation

Fair use quote:

QuoteAgents have been uncertain how much weight to give the information; the informant has failed several lie-detector tests and may simply be trying to cut a deal with prosecutors in his own criminal case, investigators said... The investigators were skeptical. The inmate supplying the information has failed at least five lie-detector tests during the past eight to 10 days conducted by the Secret Service and the FBI. The inmate was specifically asked about the alleged plot against the governor when he failed, prompting some agents to characterize him as ``51 percent pathological liar, 49 percent truthful.''

Wow, that's one accurate polygraph! How would you like to be making an honest effort to stop a possible assasination, only to be dismissed based on the eminations of a magic spirit box? Admittedly, jailhouse informants know all too well how to manipulate the system, yet that in and of itself must be weighed: He keeps failing polys, yet he keeps insisting he's being truthful. Sound familiar? If he's failed so many, why on Earth do they keep hooking him up?

Here we have a classic example of the failure of investigative techniques. LEO's relying on how to determine the veracity of a statement by hooking the informant up to a magic spirit box and seeing what happens. I for one pray for Mr. Bush's safety and that the agents in charge come to their senses. STOP relying on an archaic piece of equipment which does not work as advertised by the manufacturer!

Beech_Trees,

You are absolutely correct. Why keep polygraphing the guy if he failed so many. However in todays Los Angeles Times story regarding this matter, this prisoners information led police to a van that drew reactions from BOMB SNIFFING DOGS and they did ARREST two people in connection to the investigation.

Florida officials continue to downplay this connection because of the numerous pseudo-scientific polygraph failures, yet they have uncovered some credible evidence that the guy may be telling the truth.

What a fallacy!
