Not sure where to ask this question...so I'm going to ask it here. I apologize beforehand if it is not quite on topic for this thread, but I hope someone might be able to help me anyways. Here it is:

I am in the process for applying for a DOE position as a reseracher. I have a PhD and 5 years work experience in my field (computer science.) I'm wondering if someone could give me a ballpark figure of what I should be looking at in terms of starting salary. Thanks in advance for any help!

Mr. Mystery

I believe GS-11 or 13 depending on the position.  But I could be wrong.

I had a Ph.D. in Int'l Relations and 8 years of experience when I took a position in the community.  I was offered a GS 12-6 by two agencies.  13 is management, so unless you're moving into a management position, it would not be available to you.  If anything, you might expect a higher step (say 7 - 10).   If I were to guess, I put you in the 11-6 to 12-6 range.
