So I failed my first NSA poly and have been called back for a redo.  However, I was also applying with a different intel agency and that doesnt require a lifestyle poly and they just cleared me several days ago.  I would rather take the second offer all things being equal anyways, but should I still go back and retake the NSA poly just to try and clear my record.  Would it be wiser for me to risk failing again the NSA poly, or having it on record that I cancelled my security application after failing one poly, despite being offered a retake.

Any suggestions or comments? Thanks!

Mike1234,

Did the other agency know about the failed NSA poly ?
I was in a kind of different situaton, passing my poly,
but in adjudication limbo, and got cleared through a
different Intel agency.  My advice, being an ex-NSA
employee, would be to take the other offer, because
NSA can take up to a year, or more, to get people
through the polys and adjudication.  If you keep failing
the polys, or get an outright rejection, it could affect
your clearance at the other agency.  You would be
staking your career on the damn poly, and it is simply
not worth it.  Also, to stay in SCI access, you would have
to keep passing the poly, every five years.  I have my
reasons, to stay clear of the NSA.  Also, if they have any
reasons to string you out, they can schedule you for
a "subject interview", instead, and that can take up to
a year (I know this for a fact, because it happened to
someone at my old company)...

the other agency knew i was applying with NSA but the NSA poly didnt happen till the other agency was already doing its BI, clearance from other agency and being called back by NSA came at about same time

My advice to you, if you want to take the second job, is to withdraw your application with the NSA and not bother with the stress of a second poly.

NSA typically calls people back for multiple polygraphs.  It's just what they do.  Very likely there's no reason to "clear your record", since they've likely not come to any conclusions.
