The National Academy of Sciences/National Research Council's polygraph review committee has posted a tentative schedule for its next public meeting on polygraphs:

http://www4.nas.edu/webcr.nsf/MeetingDisplay4/BCSS-I-00-01-A?OpenDocument

The meeting is scheduled for Monday, 23 July 2001 at:

Carriage House
J. Erik Johnson Woods Hole Center
314 Quissett Avenue
Woods Hole, Massachusetts
Telephone: 508/548-3760; Fax: 508/540-4236

Some interesting speakers are scheduled:
  • Professor William G. Iacono of the University of Minnesota is a nationally recognized expert on polygraphy. He was the only scientific expert to testify at the U.S. Senate Committee on the Judiciary's 25 April 2001 Hearing on Issues Surrounding the Use of Polygraphs.

  • Dr. Sheila D. Reed did the Department of Defense Polygraph Institute's (DoDPI's) validation studies for the Test for Espionage and Sabotage polygraph screening format (used by the Departments of Defense and Energy). She criticized DoDPI's instructional methods and concluded that polygraph screening should be halted. She was stripped of her security clearance and forced to leave DoDPI.

  • Professor Charles R. Honts of Boise State University (formerly a DoDPI) while a supporter of the Control Question Test is nonetheless a critic of polygraph screening. (See the articles on his Polygraph for Screening page.)
I would encourage all who are interested in polygraph policy (and within driving distance) to attend.
