how timely is CIA

how timely is the CIA in regard to getting back to you when they say they will? i was told three weeks, it was three weeks last week, this is pre-interview phase, could they already be starting a background investigation?  just curious, thanks

I was first contacted in the middle of August regarding an analyst position.  I submitted the required paperwork and was told it could take 60 days to review it.  I was contacted again, one month later, and was told that I was going to be given a interview in Washington in late October.  That's where it stands for the moment.

I don't know if it is my speciality or what, but it seems every time I rattled the tree with the Agency I got a phone call a day or two later.  Step examples are.  I was contacted by a recruiter saying I was being considered for an analyst position 3 weeks after I submitted my online application.  Next due to some other issues my application was submitted, reviewed and put on hold by me, because I might be out of the country for an extended period of time and they couldn't process the application if I was.   When I emailed the recruiter saying I was now available I received a phone call 4 hours later for an interview.  Then it seemed they made a decision within a week after the interview and got back with me faster than they said they would.  My interviewer knew I was antsy, because I already had something in hand, but I wanted to go with the Agency if I could.  I have been offered a position, contingently.  Good luck on your stuff.

I cannot be certain, but if they function anything like other agencies in the government, it probably stands on a case by case basis, depending on their assesment of what is needed, and the security level of the job, current quotas for job positions, and what information they have of you.  If you have given them enough information to them to conduct a simple background investigation, they very well may do so sooner than you think without you realizing (i did not realize until much later(i am not a member of the CIA))

I had my interview in October.  They told me it would be three weeks before I hear something.  They said if I didn't hear in three weeks, it wasn't a bad sign, and that I should contact them.
