I'm going to be taking a psych exam soon, as part of my preemployment screening, and since I have never taken one before, I was wondering if there was anything I needed to do to prepare for it.  I've heard they ask you, if you like flowers, if you're scared of spiders, or if you'd like to be a park ranger.  Could anyone offer me any tips on how to answer?  I'm not crazy, I just don't want to fail this test by giving the wrong answer.  Thanks.

their is really no wrong answers, with the mmpi they basically ask about 10 different questions bunches of different ways to see if you are a liar, alcoholic, etc.  with the psych interview i think you know what they don't want to hear so no need to go into detail.

The test is probably the MMPI, Minnesota
Multi-Phasic Personality Inventory, which is given by
at least one intelligence agency.  I would suggest you
search for it on the Web, or go to your local library.
It does ask the same questions about 5 different ways,
in order to get a truth score.  I did find a book on it
that suggested answering a certain way, such as,
saying "no" when asked, if you believe in the second
coming of Christ.   The psychologist asked me if
I had ever had sex with animals (really !), and I just
had to laugh at him.  This test dates back to the 1950s
and was used on mental patients.  This is just another
laughable hurdle that you will have to go through,
besides the poly...

I have seen this test in a library. It's stupid. The people who designed it and the ones who applies it should have their heads examined to see if there is a tid bit of brain enclosed.

In my day, one was hired on the basis of a personal interview, resume and backgroung checking. There was no trying to get inside a person's head. Which is impossible. If the hire turned out to be unqualified or messed up enough, they were fired. If this country doesn't return to sanity our productivity is going further in the hole.

I still hire and fire and I dare any bleeding heart federal judge to tell me that I can't hire and fire any way that I deem necessary. I am old enough to remember that being politically correct was not politically correct.

If you want a good response to give, think of Basic Instinct, when Michael Douglas tells off the police psychologists.

When I took the MMPI last i was quite tired and had taken it about 5 previous times.  They called me in afterward and told me that it showed me to be an alcoholic so I had a nice discussion with him about the merits and such of the test and the fact that I only drink about 1 to 2 beers a month.  I was neat getting an inside look at the test though from an honest Dr.

I heard all the questions have four possible answers.

Strongly agree
agree
disagree
strongly disagree

some of the questions are:

I love my mother more than my father.
I am facinated by dirt.
I like flowers.
I like to read technical manuals.
I would rather pick flowers than shoot firearms.
I enjoyed smoking marijuana.
I sometimes think about hurting myself.
I sometimes get angry.
I would like to work as a florist.
I am facinated by fire.

There are about 550 questions and most of them are very simple like the ones above.  Just be honest because there is really no way to fudge it.

NSAreject

Just remember that the NSA will have a truth score for
the test, so be aware that each question is asked
about 5 different ways.  I don't remember the name
of the library book, but I'm sure that your librarian
could search on MMPI.  Just get on the Web and search
on MMPI.  Also, remember that you are dealing with a
number of disfunctional paranoids.  Here are some Web
links:
