There was a theft @ my work and because I was placed at the employees desk, I am the prime suspect.  Of course I cooperated with the police, admitted why sure I was @ her desk, and they ran my info.  10 yrs ago I was arrested for theft.  I havent done anything else (Lesson learned....I was young) so of course the investigator had it in his head I must have been the one who did this.  So, after a day of stress, interrogation etc it was finally decided if I take the voice stress test and it comes back I am telling the truth, I am cleared.

I am nervous as all hell, I am not a perfect person.  I am afraid that I am going to fail this even though I should pass.  What can I do to remain calm (i anger easily, get stressed easily, and I am very emotional)  What kinds of questions do they ask?  How long does it take?  What can I do to guarantee (of course besides tell the truth) to guarantee i pass so I can just get on with my life and they stop harrassing me and make my life miserable.  I appreciate advice and any help!
Thanks......

Oh I wanted to add- the investigator that talked to me, was down right mean, i know he was trying to get a confession out of me.  He was like I see these coincidences all the time (meaning I stole from my job once, why not again....)  then he's like it will all be better if ou just think about what you want to say and tell us what you know, and you may want to go home and sleep and think about it.  Then he was like well your finances aren't good and couldnt you use a few extra dollars, so i replied, well who couldnt???  he was just very mean, nasty and cold.

Refuse to take the test. It's not required by law. Let them know that the CEO of the company that makes this device admitted in court that it doesn't detect lies or truth. CVSA and polygraph are nothing more than an interrogation without the benefit of counsel. If they had any hard evidence on you, you would already be arrested.

As Twoblock indicated, you should refuse to take the "test." Voice stress "tests," like polygraph "tests," are a scam--little more than a prop for an interrogation.

Under the federal Employee Polygraph Protection Act of 1988, the great majority of private employers are prohibited from requiring an employee to submit to any kind of lie detector test, or from taking any negative action against employees who refuse a lie detector test. Employers who violate this law open themselves to lawsuits.
