Extent of Honesty

Greetings:

Do examiners want to know if you've actually *done* such-and-such a thing, or simply if you'd lie about *not* having done such-and-such a thing?  I left the D.C. military intel community before being hooked up to a machine, but that's what most concerned me.  (Of couse, I guess that's precisely what they want you to wonder.)

In polygraph examinations, relevant questions are generally about specific acts. So-called "control" questions, however, may potentially concern whether a person would lie. See The Lie Behind the Lie Detector (especially Chapter 3) for more about polygraph procedure:
