My examiner said I was uncomfortable during the drug use questions and is retesting me...he says he will formulate his own line of questions dealing specifically with drugs...how do I handle the polygraph when it becomes a specific issue test instead of the normal pre employment screening?

Sir,
If you have a history of drug use, you are screwed.
If you dont have a history of drug use, you are still screwed, for the polygrapf examiner has already pronounced that you have a "drug issue" - therefore he will not back down. Probably he will tell you that you are employing countermeasures to his test.

If your past is relativley clean, you should download and read TLBTLD and try to pass the test by using the detailed countermeasures .

Try to befriend the examiner. Remember that he has a big ego. Stroke his ego. Tell him he is handsome and clever. Give him a chocolat.

Honestly i admitted to marijuana use which is all the history I have and that fact makes me even more pissed/nervous about a retest

If you told the truth and didn't withhold any information on your first one just go back in and do the same on your next one.

I failed my first three pre-employment polygraphs.  The first one was for drugs, though I never again showed a reaction to any of the drug questions on any of the next three polygraphs.

I was telling the truth on all of them.  If you are doing the same, just keep plugging away and try not to let it bother you that so many law enforcement agencies are using such an inaccurate piece of equipment to screen their applicants.

Rainman369,

I think you should listen to the Sergeant.   I think that if you are being retested that you may not be showing that strong of a response.  If you have omitted everything then you will do fine.  If you are unsure of time frames or something like that.  It could be why you are showing a bump on chart ( if there is one ) .  I wouldn't recommend using countermeasures if the department is willing to retest you then they must really want you.  If you use countermeasures you Could be losing that second chance for a little bump on your chart if there is one at all .   Wish you luck..
