FAILING CONTROL QUESTIONS?

CAN ANYONE EXPLAIN WHY MY BOYFRIEND FAILED THE CONTROL QUESTION?
I thought the only way to see if he had cheated was to have him go for a polygraph test.  I am a little confused about the results.  He failed an irrelevant question.  He failed when the examiner asked if his last name what correct, and he failed.  I am positive about his last name.  The other question he failed was "Is it true that he has been faithful to me since we met?" and he failed that.  So I don't know what to think now.  That just leaves me a little confused.  Does anyone know the logic to that?

Any question about an examinee's last name is an irrelevant question, not a "control' question. Irrelevant questions are not scored. You cannot "fail" them. And although "control" questions are used in scoring, one cannot "fail" them, either. If the polygrapher told you that your boyfriend "failed" the question about his last name, then the polygrapher is lying.

Be aware that polygraphy has no scientific basis to begin with. It would be foolish to make any important life decision based on the results of this bogus procedure.
