Please help....my husband and I sepreated, the divorce is almost final. He suspects I cheated on him. And insisted on a polygraph test. I am innocent and very hurt that after 20 years he would think of me like this. I refuse to let a machine speak for me. And will keep my money in my pocket! i have given him no reason to doubt me. I want him to realize how a machine decided the fate of his marriage/family. Therfor, I would however like to....suggest to family memebers that I indeed have taken a test. As I know this info will get back to him. However, I would need to mail myself some type of letter indicating the results/scores (in my favor of course). What type of info is typically seen in a letter, regarding infedility test results? And if a polygrapher is contacted to confirm such a letter. Is any acknowledgement made? Or is it strictly "confidentiality"? Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks
ladyleo

ladyleo,

Your decision not to submit to a lie detector "test" is well founded. But your plan to forge a polygraph report is ill-conceived. Sample polygraph reports are easy enough to find on-line. But while polygraph operators may not disclose results to unknown third parties, if a person contacts one explaining, "I have a copy of a report signed by you stating that you polygraphed ladyleo on such and such a date, asked such and such questions, and that no deception was indicated. Can you confirm this?" then I don't think any polygrapher would have any problem confirming that the report is a forgery.

I think a better and more ethical approach would be to let your husband and other family members know that polygraph testing has no scienific basis and a passed or failed polygraph is evidence of...nothing.

You might give your husband a printout of Professor William G. Iacono's article, "Forensic 'Lie Detection': Procedures Without Scientific Basis":

http://antipolygraph.org/articles/article-018.shtml

as well as Dr. Drew C. Richardson's evaluation and opinion of CQT polygraphy:

http://antipolygraph.org/articles/article-028.shtml

You can also refer him to our e-book The Lie Behind the Lie Detector, which explains how to pass a polygraph whether or not one is telling the truth. If you were a liar, you could have simply taken the polygraph and used countermeasures to pass:
