CSIS Intelligence Officer Full Interview Questions List:

Before we begin the interview, I would like to confirm that you are in a private location, where we can speak freely and without interruption?

Question 1: Before we begin with more formal type questions, why don't you tell me what attracted you to apply to our position?

Question 2: Could you please describe the mandate and the role of CSIS as you understand it?

Question 3: Could you describe what you understand of the role of a Human-Intelligence Officer (HIO)?

Question 4: What aspects of your background (both academic and work) make this role a good fit for you and how does it align with your career goals?

Question 5: Could you please provide an example of a geopolitical event that happened in the past year you believe was related to CSIS' mandate?

Question 6: Do you have any additional language abilities? How would you rate your ability: fair, good, excellent?

Question 7: Salary expectations - our salary range is $87,459 to $106,386 and as a matter of policy we hire new employees at the start of the scale. Does this meet your expectations?

Vacation leave starts at 3 weeks; 4 weeks after 5 years

7 days of family-related leave

2 personal days of leave

15 days of sick leave credits per year that are carried over each year

More compassionate leave than other public service departments

Multiple LWOP options (care of family, caregiving leave, domestic violence leave, bereavement leave, etc...)

4% yearly increase until the max is reached

Overtime and possibility to take as money or as compensatory leave

Security checks prior to interview: Indices checks run on full name, first name, last name, email, current address, phone number, and DOB.

The security part involving security interview and polygraph are separate from the HR suitability interviews although information provided from any step can be used for suitability rejection.

Has your driver's license ever been suspended?

What is your comfort level driving in various conditions (i.e. snow, rain, night time, city, etc.)

What are your abilities in the second official language?

Have you been tested with the Public Service Commission?

As discussed, the process can take anywhere from six months to over a year to complete. Can you advise on your availability: For the process? If you were invited to Human-Intelligence Officer Course (HIOC)? If you needed to relocate to Ottawa?

Can you describe one current event that is related to CSIS, and how is it relevant?

Can you explain the differences between the RCMP and CSIS?

This selection process is very competitive, what makes you stand out compared to all the other candidates?
