I'm not sure if everyone is physically capable of doing this but it seems forcibly blurring your own vision (causing pupils to dilate) would generate a physical respone akin to the anal sphincter method since both involve muslce contraction, but eye blurring, I'd think, wouldn't be detectable.  Thoughts?

I think most polygraphs are videoed and this would show up and be a disqualifying 'action.' I licked my lips and was told that IF I did it again, I'd be disqualified... unbelievable.

geeesssh! Polygraphers are so paranoid of countermeasures they are looking under their beds for them. What if the polygrapher is a pretty lady and I sprung one during the test?

RoamingBack

Paranoia... right, right Stefano. You are correct. The world, not to wax philosophically, has lost its humanity. Oh, not everyone but in general I ( this is an opinion, like those orifices we all have ;^) I think we are being taught it is the 'way' to be... paranoia follows, perhaps it might even precede but I don't know. Coldness predominates. Be safe.

Stefano,

I would like to see that happen, just to see the reaction of the female polygrapher.  You would have a decrease in Blood Pressure in the arm, and I'm sure breathing would change, also the GSR would change drastically.  Good countermeasure for sure.

POOT

I farted during my poly and was accused of using that as a countermeasure.
Go figure. :-/

Now, now....I am sure the lot of us are not on GQ Magazine's short list.

to bring this back to what was intended as a serious question (though the scenario is pretty damn funny)...i know sessions are recorded, but i'm not talking about squinting. to detect pupil contractions, a camera would have to be literally in your face no? unfortunately, i don't know how it looks when i blur my vision because when i do it....my vision is blurred so i can't see myself!

RoamingBack

Dilation of pupils is hard to do without varying the amount of light in or out. That means altering your lids to be more open or less open and I think that would be observable. The video recording is, I was told, of high quality. But really why must one have to go to such lengths... the poly is so obviously flawed for employment selection as proven time and time again both objectively and subjectively (here, comments of failed applicants). It is true you can raise your BP by pressing on the philtrum (upper lip groove, center) or reduce it by gently pressing on your closed eyelids/eyes but of course that is very observable. Physignomy is the science of 'face reading' and I'm sure that is no less accurate. I'd like to see to what extent one can dilate or constrict their pupils, interesting.

stefano

I believe that any psycho-physiological response generated from eye pupil dilation would be the result of the mental work involved rather than the physical processes.

Therefore, I would suggest generating the mental work alone, void of any physiological mechanism. This eliminates the concern for examiner scrutiny, not to mention the indignity of having to stealthily pucker your sphincter in the presence of some dweeb on a power trip.

Okay, well, that is interesting.
