SF86 Question

I am filling out the worksheet for the SF-86 application and can't find my Selective Service Number.  I could have sworn I registered for that, but it has been over 10 years, and I just don't know anymore.  I definitely never got any notification that I hadn't registered, but I can't get any record of the number.  The problem is that I am now too old to register.  Any advice on what to do if I can't get my number?  Will I be denied clearance without it?  Thanks.

According to an SF-86 instruction sheet on the DOJ website:

Item 20 SELECTIVE SERVICE RECORD
        If you are a male born after December 31, 1959, please indicate whether or not you
        are registered with the Selective Service System. If yes, provide your registration
        number. You may contact the Selective Service System at 847–688-6888 and
        they will provide you with your registration number.

So, I would suggest calling to inquire about your registration number.
