Hello,

I am taking a new contract position managing part of our City's Police Dept computer network.  I understand that I will be undergoing a background and poly sometime soon after the start of the job.  I have read through this site well and the 3 main recomended PDF files.  I was a Counterintelligence Agent in the Army for 10 years and am very familiar with interogation and poly tactics so I feel that I have, at a minimum, added confidence in employing counter measures.  I have not disclosed my CI background, nor any other information to anyone at this time.  I would like to know if anyone, especially you George  :) , has any insight as to what/how much to disclose.  What would the examiner do with that info if I did disclose?  Also, since I intend to employ counter measures to protect my privacy, should I just go ahead and not disclose any derogatory info from the start?

Thanks!

Kona

Eyewideopen,

I think that much of what you will have to disclose will depend on the depth of questioning by your BI.  Does your DD214 list your MOS as "Counterintelligence Agent," or does it simply say Intel Specialist?  If they start asking a lot of questions about exactly what you did in the Army, eventually this will come out.  At any rate, absolutely do not lie about your counterintelligence backround if asked.....Just be honest with them, but don't volunteer any specific info unless asked.

As for not disclosing any derogatory info, that is your call.  Keep in mind that if you get caught in a lie, you are done, end of story.

Good luck.
