Base heart rate too high?

I am nervous as hell about all this, just thinking about taking this test makes my heart rate go up. What if my base heart rate is too high to produce a effect on control questions with my heart rate? Will breathing changes be enough?
I have a heart monitor, I am having a difficult time getting any increase.
