Upcoming CVSA

I am a military person with over 20 years of service with a special operations background and set to retire in a few weeks.  I have also been attending a local police academy as a sponsored student (they are paying for it).  I had previously completed thier requested background checks and was approved for sponsorship.  I have taken security related polygraphs in the past and passed them without a problem.  I have maintained and held a TS-SCI for almost my entire 20 year career.  I have also read from cover to cover TTBTLD and the book hit every nail on the head with regard to the procedure and attitudes of the past examiners.  I employed no counter-measures at the time of taking my polygraphs (I had no knowledge of them at that time.)  My question is now that I am older and wiser, I will soon be taking a CVSA and not a poly.  The strange thing is, that all of the background checks were conducted PRIOR to my being accepted but the CVSA is reserved for last as part of the hire process once I complete the academy.  Fellow law enforcement instructors have told us "dont worry about that CVSA.." When the question was asked "what if the military has trained you in counter-interrogation techniques."  But, after reading all of the horror stories here I kind of beg to differ.  Is there any advice out there that someone can offer me that will enable me to not acheive a false detection of deception? The CVSA will be a state investigator service administered one and not by some local yocal.  I have heard "answer on the exhale on all questions" etc etc.  Any help you guys have will be greatly appreciated.

Just tell the truth.  CVSA does not work anyway.....
