The French-language website Champ lexical de la littérature française provides the following definition for "polygraphe" (polygraph):

Du grec polugraphos.

(Souvent péjoratif.) Auteur qui écrit sur des sujets et dans des genres variés sans en être un spécialiste.

which, translated into English is:

Polygraph
From the Greek polugraphos

(Often pejorative.) An author who writes in various styles on various subjects without being a specialist in them.
