Some time ago I (and others) raised the issue of underlying theories of control question test polygraphy.  I indicated that my current thinking is that a "fear of consequences" mechanism is a better explanation for why one would expect this test format to be confounded (and invalid) than any explanation I have heard as to why one might expect it to work.  As I recall, you indicated that this sort of discussion would be of interest to you.  If that is still the case, perhaps you might care to comment on this proposed mechanism or to begin a substantive discussion of why you believe some other mechanism is a good/better candidate to be the prevailing operative one.
