Polygraph exams are used as a license for positions of responsibility and trust. The recent studies on insular stroke find that survivors tend to confabulate. Their feelings are often distorted, resulting in prejudiced, over-controlling, manipulative, antisocial behavior. And because they do not feel stress, these sociopaths would pass the polygraph. So, is our society too heavily influenced by "trusted insiders" with stroke? The science community needs to weigh in on this.

The science community needs to weigh in on this.

My understanding is that the American Medical Association and the National Academy of Sciences already have weighed in on polygraph science and stated their position that the polygraph science is a joke.   Their findings haven't stopped con-artists, corrupt politicians and bureaucrats from profiting from continued misuse of the instrument.
