As for taking a Polygraph you can read my story in the post your Polygraph experience forum, they are on page 19 "titled taking one for the team". They were a few years ago and to be honest I will never test for a department that uses the poly ever again. My results were ofcourse inconclusive, however they seemed to haunt me for the longest time when applying to other departments. It appears that to the uneducated and uninformed inconclusive=FAIL.
I did however, come out ahead in the end as being rejected caused me to reorganize my priorities in life and I am much happier now than I have ever been. I am still happily married and have great family and friends that I would of had to move away from had I gotten the job. I also managed to move on to a larger department in the area and I am doing very well for myself there. You live and you learn, but I wouldn't beat myself up over not getting a job. Life is way to short and you could always die crossing the street, on a routine traffice stop, or because the guy in the oncoming lane fell asleep at the wheel and crashed into you, so you have to enjoy it while you can.
I really do wish you the best of luck with whatever choice you make. Either way, whatever happens always remember it probably happened for a reason and make the best of it. Had I not been turned down, I know I would have never finished college, let alone with Honors. But in failure or should I say "Inconclusiveness" I found the motivation to succeed.

I appreciate your feedback. I would normally would not post what acts I have committed on a web site but I knew LE people would see it and give me their opinion. I have a great job and I enjoy working where I am....I don't want to burn my bridge at the place I am at. Anyway, since ALL your posts are negative I take it you are projecting your life on to all of us. Yeah, we all smell something that stinks when you post and it is your life. Sorry, but hopefully someday you may amount to something other than a bitter person. Once again the lack of "professionalism" and "maturity" by some people on this board never ceases to amaze me. I also find it unfortunate that the majority of them end up being pro-polygraph. I , like many others on this board always welcome thought out, mature and challenging posts that are pro-polygraph as some of us fall somewhere in the middle of the whole pro and anti argument. However, name calling and the unnecessary use of expletives only impedes progress and any attempt at civilized discussion.
Thanks for your contrubution or lack there of ISBS2. It's not the terrorists that worry me, it is an ignoramus like ISBS2 that worries me. There are way too many of them and they rely on the Polygraph 100% to tell us who the terrorists are.

Like I said, if you have indeed changed and done your job as a LE officer with integrity then I don't think you have anything to hide. If you are in LE most Polygraphs are actually tailored towards activities that may have occured while on duty.

Read my post for the "can I get a Job" thread. Unfortunately we really don't have a "soul" test to see if indeed someone has changed. Unfortunately, an investigator and especially a Poly examiner are all blessed with a holier than though attitude that they develop over time, I think they actually in a twisted manner deem themselves superior to the rest of the people on the planet that apparently didn't grow up in a plastic bubble free from temptation and juvenile stupidity.

I think you interpreted my response as a personal attack, which it wasn't. I was simply attempting to redirect your anger towards the real cause of your problem. Yes, I am 100% sure you are sorry for having done what you did and would gladly take it all back. I am however not judging you and perhaps my post seemed to express that, which was not my intention.
Either way, I have nothing but respect for fellow officers. We all put up with the same difficulties and cannot blame you for wanting to move to a larger dept. However, remeber the larger the Dept. the more difficulties you will encounter.

I am still in law enforcement and have done an excellent job...Im a corporal and an FTO for a 40 man department. I want to move on with my career and possibly get into different areas. I have never taken a polygrpah and am nervous due to the fact I have committed these acts. When I originally did my background packet I was never ask about a certain number of these question so they would be in my background and shouldn't "bite me in my ass" I have no problem telling the truth I just don't want to be judge what I did 7 years ago instead of the past 5 years. damn me for doing things in my past that I can notchange? I didn't know I want to be a police officer until I was 20 or 21 while in college. The things I did when I was younger was stupid but should affect what I do with my life for the rest of my life. If I could change what I did in my past I would but I can't. The only things

They truly are an excellent tool to get applicants to confess to things that background checks usually won't find. It is one thing for a person to not get a job because they fail a polygraph and are innocent, it is something completely different to fail because you are hiding things you have done in the past.
In this instance it is not "damn polygraphs", but damn "jeff jeffrey" for doing the things you did over and over and over.

- Jun 19, 2004, 03:05 AMIm planning on taking a poly soon. I have already been in LE for 5 years now. When I first appled, the agency I got hired on did not have a poly(we do now) However since I have been in LE, I have a clean history except for the occasinol MV violation or policy violation(nothing serious) I plan on being honest and straight forward with hopes I will not have any problems. But I am worried about past crimnal history I have had. I have never been convicted of anything but did have a history of thefts from the ages of 13 til 20,,id estimate around 15 thefts all pety. I also was with some friends at age 16(I am 27 now) and went into a house...the two friends grabbed a tv snd I left because I got scared...I later picked up the friends on the road and they put the tv in the car..it was later sold for money. Other than that I have some minor other thnings...I have never been invovled in drugs so Ill be all set there. Based on this has anyone been DQ'd for similiar stuff or do you think they will realize that people change and Ive had a great history since being in LE?
Im also curious that if someone justifies an answer to downpplay it will it affect a poly result??
I tried writting everything down since I started being able to rememebr things. Id did this with hopes to clear my mind so it would help me. After doing this I looked at the list and realized what if they judge me on this??
