The answer to your first question is yes, even after a "control" question has been re-phrased to exclude any minor admissions, one still wants to augment reactions to it. Remember how the "test" is scored? One passes by showing stronger reactions to the "control" questions than to the relevant ones.
As for the scorable breathing reactions, I don't know how to describe them any more clearly than they already have been in Chapter 4 of The Lie Behind the Lie Detector. I suggest that you carefully re-read this section. Be sure to read the 3rd edition (in PDF format), which includes sample charts that illustrate the patterns described.

I am anticipating my polygraph finally approaching within a month now after a long drawn out process for employment.I have read TLBTLD though I have one final question.When the examiner rephrases a control question after making the minor admissons that he wants into "other then what you have told me have you ever stole anything,lied,cheated,withheld information etc.?"Are you still supposed to employ countermeasures when answering this question? Hope someone can clear that up....Also the breathing patterns are kind of hard to interpret in your book any suggestions?
