"Penn & Teller: Bullshit" is a TV series on Showtime which will present a program about the polygraph airing on Thursday, July 23rd. It will feature false positive errors and will include a segment with Doug Williams regarding countermeasures.

Thanks for the heads up Gordon, I'll set the DVR to record it.

Based on the title of the show...which I've never heard of... it doesn't sound like there will be any balance to it. cest la vie.

I do know that Penn Jillette is a graduate of the Ringling Brothers Clown College. Is it possible that he and G.M. were Frat Brothers?

I just received a 'generic' invite from GM to watch this show. Apparently GM was also interviewed for the show.

Just one more piece to indicate Penn and George were Frat Brothers at the clown college.

I don't have Showtime, but I would be interested to know if they interview a practitioner with a current/recent training in a relevant field. I would also like to know if the examiner they use is a bonafide Grogan "Box Boy"

Penn & Teller have a teaser video on their site http://www.sho.com/site/ptbs/home.do

The examiner is Larry Diapaola/Modern Polygraph who is a senior member of PEOA. Does anyone know if he went to an APA approved school?

Okay...that name (Larry Diapaola) is familiar to me. Was he in on a discussion before? I searched his name on PP and didn't come up with anything...unless I am spelling it wrong.

Donna,

Larry D is a poser trained by 'box boy' and a complete fraud.

I watched an episode of the show a couple of days ago to see what the shows were like. This one was about the end of the world in 2012. They made the 'experts' they hired look like complete goobers (rightfully so in my opinion). Point is, the show is going to trash polygraph, I feel confident of that. The good part of that news is that they chose just the right polygraph posers to make look like goobers. I'm kind of looking forward to the show.

Oh and a content warning. This is not a rated g show, nudity and language were sprinkled in throughout the show. I guess they had to do something to make it more interesting.

Larry is indeed a Groganite out of the San Francisco area. Pat Coffey has quite a bit of insight on Larry. From what I remember, Larry is a failed real estate agent. He ended up on Grogan's "Member of the Month" website for several months. Here is Larry's website: www.modernpolygraph.com

On a side note, Penn and Teller were previously interviewed regarding their show. They were quoted as saying they are "biased as hell." That's entertainment!

From his own website

quote:
Larry DiPaola
Larry DiPaola graduated from the University of California at Santa Barbara in 1987 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Liberal Studies. He went on to study the science known as the Psychophysiological Detection of Deception. He is a senior member of Polygraph Examiners of America.

He also cautions the public
quote:
Don’t have a polygraph test done by someone that does not have an office a website, insurance or flexibility is scheduling. Chances are they are not a professional polygraph examiner.
but he doesn't mention accredited training anywhere on hs web site. hmmmm

Did anybody watch? I didn't. It would have been too irritating. It sounds as if the BS investigators got BS'd themselves.

Yes...yes...I'll admit it, I watched it. Their show is late night and for mature audiences. They are on record stating they are biased in their views. Most of the shows will focus on several individuals who support their view(s) then to represent the other side they bring in some clown. Well, nothing different here. Doug Williams received more time than did our friend George. Williams was trying to show two of the show's assistants how to "beat" the polygraph by having them squeeze their sphincter muscle. He was not using movement sensors.

On the pro side was our Groganite friend Mr. DiPaola from the San Francisco area. They showed him doing an exam re: infidelity. DiPaola is bald so Penn/Teller kept call him names such as cue ball, Dr. Phil, Montel, Curley, Van Diesel, along with a few harsher names. DiPaola does the exam, the kid goes DI, he elicits some admissions, but the show twists the wording.

They twisted the wording of the 1998 Supreme Court Case and claim polygraph has never caught a spy.

Overall, I'm sure George would have wanted more face time and Doug seemed a bubble off of center.

That's entertainment.

OK I found a place from which to download the episode 153MB It took awhile.
http://stagevu.com/video/wnsipvtabpyh

I don't think the show hurt polygraph at all and based on his reserved comments GM doesn't seem to think it helped his position much either.

I hope Grogan an company place a big "As seen on Bullshit" ad on all of their we sites.

It was kind of fun to watch Doug manufacture a response by stating to his victim.

quote:
Now I am going to ask you a very personal question... Have you ever in your life robbed a bank?
and Larry Diapaola tell his guy it was time to get
quote:
strapped up

Every time Doug Williams said the phrase "Squeeze your anal sphincter" I thought his head would implode from the pressure.

I downloaded the avi file to my computer rather that streaming it. No problems. No malware.
