Can I get re-cleared 10 years after losing my clearance for a crime?

Ten years ago I had my ts/sci/poly clearance stripped after a misdemeanor conviction that did not involve drug, violence, or alcohol. I was fired. I know the SF only goes back 10 years. What are the chances of getting cleared again? Any examples online of situations like mines?

I think you'll face an uphill battle getting a security clearance granted again. Having been convicted of a crime while holding a TS/SCI clearance will be considered highly derogatory, even a decade later. You'll want to review Adjudicative Guideline J and recent DoD security clearance determinations.

I looked at those links and I deduce that my battle won't be so much "uphill." My situation was a one time thing, a misdemeanor, and will be over ten years since it happened. I don't have to list it under criminal activity but I guess I do have to answer the question about ever having a clearance denied or yanked away.  It kind of sucks that the SF86 goes back 10 years for some things then goes to ask, "have you ever . . . " for other things. Just like in polygraphs when they ask you about things you have EVER done which is outside of the 10-year scope. Ten years should be 10 years for everything.

I have the same question as the OP.  I have a conditional offer for a job that requires top secret clearance, but about 12 years ago I got arrested, convicted, and served a short stint in jail for a stunt where me and friends ran down the streets butt naked and trashed several stores, cars, and other property.  I was on cocaine but I didn't mention that and wasn't convicted of any drug offense, I was just convicted of vandalism and public indecency.

However, these are misdemeanors and 12 years ago and the SF86 only asks about the last 10 years for misdemeanors, so I should be good.  I have a PhD in Computer Science specializing in computer security so my trade is in high demand.  I'm sure the government can look past my previous indiscretions and clear me again, no?

I would advise against accepting any offer that requires a polygraph. Especially if you have a skill that is in high demand.

Considering the amount of time that has passed since your conviction, I think that national security concerns regarding your conduct may well be mitigated and that you may be able to obtain a security clearance. (I am inferring that unlike the original poster, you did not hold a security clearance at the time when you were convicted.)
