Long-time polygraph examiner Chris Gugas, who died last year at the age of 86, was a guest on Groucho Marx's show, You Bet Your Life, which ran from 1950-1961. Video of his appearance has recently been posted to Google Video. Although the date of the episode is not posted, Gugas mentions that he had been married 15 years; according to his obituary in the Los Angeles Times, he was married in 1942, placing this video around 1957:

I must say that polygrapher seemed like a pretty affable guy.  Certainly not the type that would turn a gal's arm purple.  I seriously doubt he is the type that would falsely accuse people of school vandalism.

However the video only goes to prove that the machine does not detect lies just responses to a stimuli that can be from anything ( even a girl!!)
