New one for you....

I went to take a poly last week for a central FL LE, i had to go to a private contractor because their in house poly guy was just arrested for kiddie porn, not really part of the story but interesting none the less.

During the pre poly interview 1 question struck as moronic, Is any member of your immediate family a convicted felon that you know of? During the test i answered truthfully to all questions and wasnt worried at all about any of it, until the post interview. The examiner told me i did great except for 1 question, the family/felon question. I told him calmly that it is impposible for me to lie about that question.....and he cut me off there yelling "everyone lies u just got caught, you little bastard. Why would you ruin your chance of a carreer because your mom is probaly a crack ho?". Needless to say, i was in a state of shock which he took as an admission i guess because he continued to shout about me being a liar and how i shouldnt lie even if my parents are junkies. After a few minutes i didnt say a word, i just took my cell phone out and called my application officer, who also happens to be a long time friend, and put it on speaker phone. The examiner immediatly started telling her i was trying to cover up my junkie parents, ADMITTED to only wanting to be a LEO to get free "junk" for them, so i was completely unqualified for the job. She interrupted him finally and informed him that i am an orphan and that my parents and sister died when i was 2, she then told me to leave, get a copy of the death certificates and bring them to her office.  Long story short, he lost his contract, i go for a retest next week, and im looking into a law suit because she got the video log of it for me.

sorry for your bad experience but its nice to see one of the assholes get their comeuppance.

Despite my own negative experience, I think most polygraph operators are much more professional, and my various FBI polygraphers certainly never tried anything like that.

First, you are fortunate there is a video record of this polygrapher's abuse.   Attempt to obtain a copy of it as soon as you can so it's not destroyed.

Second, in order to maintain your rights in the matter I strongly recommend you consult with an attorney immediately about a lawsuit.  While the events are fresh in your mind, I recommend you write a narrative describing the entire scenario for your personal records.  This polygrapher is definitely abusive.  Those who are victims of polygraph abuse have an obligation to do all they can to send a clear message to the polygraph community to cease their abuse.

Although I am not a lawyer, as a contractor I doubt he has the same level of immunity against lawsuits that a polygrapher who works for a government agency has.

Not only would I contact an attorney, I would file a complaint with the Florida Polygraph Licensing Authority and have them investigate.  He/She will have the license suspended or revoked.  This is from a Polygraph Examiner.  We don't need this type of examiner practicing his/her wares.

Legatio, in order to preserve your rights in any lawsuit I recommend you contact an attorney before pursuing any complaint wth any polygrapher organization.  Moreover, considering how shady the so-called "profession" of polygraphry is it's highly doubtful any of them would take any action against a fellow polygrapher.  It's the fox guarding the hen house syndrome.

For an example of how polygrapher organizations police their own see the message board thread titled, Ethics Complaint against Edward I. Gelb.

Note neither the APA nor its California counterpart has taken any signifcant action against Gelb.  It's an outrage that any organization would knowingly allow such a prominent member to continue to falsely claim an academic title without appropriate sanctions.

Legatio,

It is truly sad that you had to experience this outrageous behavior on the part of a polygrapher. This proves again,  that it is way too much power in the hands of 1 individual, or even multiple people. This website and those that come here more than validate as your story does, that the polygraph is just wrong. I hope the lawyer you get takes them for a very large settlement. Enjoy the $$$ as you sure deserve it. Contrary to what our local polygrapher "LieNot", has to say, I bet the Florida Polygraph Association (or what ever its name is) will do absolutely nothing, and is as worthless as the machine they support.

Much success to you

Regards ...

I had a simple lady as my poly.  She was dope..more like laid back..asking simple questions like "have you lied last year?" Little nervous...but never have I ever experience shit like that.

The funniest thing about this post isn't the "Yo mama a crack ho!" behavior of the polygrapher, but that a self-proclaimed polygrapher could actually believe such a story.

Having sat through this nonsense myself (though no where near as bizzarre as this story) I can't dismiss it entirely.

But to a normal person on the street, if they were told of this behavior by a gov contracter (Abu Ghraib contractors aside) they'd dismiss it entirely and not believe it.

Only those who have sat through a polygraph or those who practice this profession would find this story remotely believable.  Oh the ties that bond is together!

I have checked with Florida and they do not have a licensing board so that is not an option, I thought they did have one.  The Florida Polygraph Association may or may not become involved, it would not hurt to try and file a complaint with them.  I was sure Florida had a licensing board, however it does not.  And good luck in your law suit, hope you win.

What a surprise, even a polygrapher admits they are unable to police their own members of this so-called profession.   LOL!!

Just like Ed Gelb's false Ph.D and the APA, this is a classic case of the fox guarding the hen house.   From personal experience, I know Ed Gelb and this jerk aren't the only lying and abusive polygraphers in this country.

Recommendation:  Legatio, unless your lawyer says filing a complaint with any Florida polygrapher licensing board that might exist will help you in your lawsuit, don't waste your time with these charlatans.
