Agency Process Question

I had my poly for the agency about 6 months ago. It was very similar to all the other posts.  2-day session, accused me of everything (spy, drugs, hacking), intense bonding, help you get through this, resolve the issues, etc. They really turned up the pressure trying to get an admission.   There was nothing to admit, so they had me in the next day to sweat me again. Again, nothing to admit.

My BI had begun prior to the poly. I have heard nothing since.  Total process from initial orientation has been about 13-14 months. I have updated my BI a few time by phone since then, but they just say OK.

A few questions:  If I failed the poly, would they have told me by now or do all files go for adjuication and then they tell  you?  The reason I ask is after reading posts here, it sounds like I had an intensive post-test interview and that seems to be considered a bad sign.

Thanks.

Hi LW,

I'm a fellow applicant, also waiting for my security clearance...so take my opinion for what it's worth.

From what I gather on this message board and another, there are two points after the initial COE during which the agency can reject you.  The first is after the poly and/or BI.  By the way, I don't think they ever tell you that you failed the poly--but having to take the test a 2nd or 3rd time is probably indication that you didn't "pass" it the prior time.

Once information is gathered during the poly, I think the agency reviews the information to make a determination of "suitability."  There are a number of other posters on this site who were sent letters after their poly and before the BI had begun indicating that they were no longer found "suitable" for the position, and encouraged to reapply at a later date--though they had not been denied a security clearance.  This, I think, is the first point someone can be rejected a job after the COE.

If someone makes it past this point, I believe the BI is conducted and then the case goes to adjudication.  Of course, at the end of adjudication a security clearance can be denied.  I'm not sure if they still make "suitability" decisions at this point, but I would assume they still could, if new information comes forward.

So, since it has been a while since your poly, and since you have not received a "suitability" letter, I would guess that you have proceeded to adjudication.  I think this is generally a good sign, but you are still not out of the woods.  At this point, the only thing you can wait for is the yes or no from the adjudicator regarding your security clearance.

And lastly, I'm not sure what to say about your post-poly interview, as I didn't have one...was it conducted by the polygrapher? or was it from someone else?

Anyway, I hope this somehow helps...

Thanks for the post.  Who can ever be sure, but it seems like I am still moving forward.

Regarding the post-test interview, it was done by the examiner in the room just after I wasn't hooked up anymore.  Lasted a while and then they let me go.
