Title: poligraph test
Post by: vlad on Mar 24, 2001, 10:50 AM
hello,
I am required to take a poligraph test as a procedsure to get security clearence for a classified post at the military intelligance of my country (i'm not from the united states).
i've already got a "level 4" clearence (wich did not require a poligraph test, and at the security invistigation i lied about trying drugs (marijuana). i believe that what would bother them more is not me trying drugs, but the fact i lied to them at the first invistigation. I'm afraid that if I fail the poligraph test I would loose my current clearence and job.
please advise on how to pass the poligraph test...

Vlad,

It was not my and Mr. Scalabrini's purpose in writing The Lie Behind the Lie Detector to help people get away with lying, but we decided that the truth about polygraphy needs to be told. You must make an ethical choice regarding whether or not to tell the full truth.

But you should be aware that in every polygraph "test," at least one person truly is deceptive: the polygraph examiner. I suggest you download and read The Lie Behind the Lie Detector, which you'll find on this site at:

While I am only familiar with the polygraph screening formats used in the United States, it seems likely that the format used in your country will be either a probable-lie or a directed-lie "Control" Question "Test." You will find these generic formats described in Chapter 3, and in the following chapter, you will learn how to pass a polygraph "test," whether or not you are telling the truth.
