The FBI website says that applicants must have a four-year degree and three years of professional work experience. This means: seven years of preparation.
Nevertheless applicants may be at the age of 23. How is it possible that applicants meet the requirements and be just 23 years old? Or did I misunderstand something and there are other ways (like being recruited directly from college)?
FBI Special Agent applicants who can speak a critical language (Arabic, Urdu, Farsi, etc.) get to have the work experience requirement waived. So they can apply right out of college. If you have a Masters only 2 years of full time experience is required, if you have a PhD only 1 year of full time experience. But everyone must have at least a BS degree. Some people do graduate college early (I know people who got their BS at age 20) and can work for 3 years and be eligible to apply at 23/24. I asked the FBI Applicant Coordinator about this and was told that most applicants are older than 23. The average age for New Agents entering the Academy at Quantico is 30.
