Title: Fooling the GSR?
Post by: pathrunner on Apr 29, 2009, 10:24 AM
hey all, I just took a polygraph test and the only thing that came back as deceptive was my GSR.  Is there anyway to block your galvanic skin response?  I have the test again in a couple of days and am upset that the only thing that stops me from getting my job is my sweat.  Any help would be appreciated.

Polygraph operators worth their salt know that sweat patterns are unique to each individual. No one sweat pattern fits all and "DI" because of the GSR is stupid and an arbitrary show of power. By requiring another test, he/she has set you up to fail the next test. You have now been stimulated into a worry state and you will be thinking about this during the test. A STANDARD MO. I would tell them to stick it where the sun don't shine, not their armpits either, and apply to another agency.

"Deceptive"?  Is that the word the polygraph operator?  It does NOT directly indicate deception.

Their M.O.  is to convince you that the machine measures deception in an effort to get you talking.  DON'T FALL FOR IT!  If you are answering the test questions honestly, stick to it no matter what they say or how they threaten or cajole you!  But don't argue or be confrontational  with them either.

An employment polygraph is a "fishing expedition" pure and simple.  Don't take the bait!

Thanks guys.  Just was hoping to find something that would eliminate the GSR from the equation.

If you have naturally sweaty hands, i don't think there is much you can do about it. If you put some kind of powder on your finger tips, they will accuse you of CM's and disqualify you on the spot. The only suggestion I have is to explain to the operator your sweating condition. They probably won't give a tinkers damn though. One would think a polygrapher would advise you but they don't give a damn whether you pass or fail. They would say you are a liar just because the GSR indicates that you are. Forget the other two factors that says you're not.
