Post by: 8hr55 on Dec 22, 2008, 12:08 AM
Are they the same thing?

Should one employs CMs during these questions?

What are the main difeences between the two?

Yes.

If one has chose to use countermeasures, then yes, one would want to augment reactions to the control questions.

The polygraph community has renamed "control" questions "comparison" questions in response to the valid criticism that they provide no "control" within the scientific meaning of the word. But only the nomenclature has changed. Polygraphers continue to employ control/comparison questions as if they actually do provide meaningful control. For more on polygraph validity, procedure, and countermeasures, see chapters 1, 3, and 4, respectively, of The Lie Behind the Lie Detector (https://antipolygraph.org/lie-behind-the-lie-detector.pdf) (1 mb PDF).
