Title: I have a polygraph test coming up this week...
Post by: terrence on Dec 07, 2008, 11:22 PM
I have a polygraph test coming up this week with my local police department.  I am also very nervous because I took one for a federal agency (not the FBI) 7 years ago and I failed it.  I also told the complete truth, but somehow managed to fail.  I have been reading the book on this website, but I am not sure if I can be ready in just a few days. . . but I am gonna try.  My husband is going to help me prepare by asking me questions, etc.  But without a lie detector machine, it's hard to know if I am really doing well or not.  And will the police department see my previous lie detector results?

Did the polygraph operator 7 years ago get you to believe the machine can tell if you are lying?  What information were they able to get out of you?

You really don't need to do that.  Just realize that the polygraph is just a form of interrogation disguised as a test.  The machine can't detect deception.  You need to REALLY believe that.  By practicing the questions, you're just conditioning your subconscious to believe otherwise.

Most LE job applications ask if you've ever taken a polygraph before.
