Title: SF 86 and Marijuana use.
Post by: xpiggyx on Oct 16, 2008, 09:27 AM
I wasn't too sure where to put this post, so...
I've come across a job where I'll have to have a secret clearance.  I looked over the SF 86 form and saw where it asks about drug use.  I've used a couple of times over the last year or so, and took a couple of hits about 5 months ago, but that's it.  I won't lie on the form, but do you think this would disqualify me from a position where a secret clearance is required?  The reason I ask is that the SF 86 is loooooong form :D and if I'll be disqualified because of the MJ use, then there's no point in filling out the form and pursuing this job any further, right?

I would expect such recent use of marijuana to result in your being denied a security clearance.

Thanks for the reply, George, it's most appreciated.  The job was for a military contractor, but I have offers from other employers where a secret clearance isn't necessary, so it's not a big deal.  Another quick query: At what point do they begin to use polygraph tests?  Top Secret? TSQ? What?  This is all new to me, so now I'm becoming inquisitive. Thanks.

Generally, polygraphs are used for certain (but not all) positions requiring a top secret clearance.
