I was asked a question about the Backster Zone Comparison and couldn't find any posts about it on here. What is the history behind it?
The "Zone Comparison Test," variations of which are now the primary polygraph technique used by polygraphers in criminal interrogations, was devised by polygrapher Grover Cleveland ("Cleve") Backster in 1960. You'll find a couple of these variations outlined in Appendix C of the 4th edition of The Lie Behind the Lie Detector (http://antipolygraph.org/lie-behind-the-lie-detector.pdf). See also Chapters 8 & 9 of the Federal Psychophysiological Detection of Deception Examiner Handbook (http://antipolygraph.org/documents/federal-polygraph-handbook-01-03-2004.pdf).
