poly4me,

You ask a question the answer to which very few individuals are likely to know. With regard to LAPD, I am fairly confident based on anecdotal evidence and personal experience (albeit dated) that a probable-lie "control" question "test" (CQT) is used.

While I don't know about the other departments in So. Cal., the probable-lie CQT is the most commonly use pre-employment polygraph technique nationwide, and I expect that is what you'll encounter.

Note that your question suggests a bit of confusion about polygraph techniques. You listed R/I, DLT, Control, and MQT. Note that the "Control Question Test" encompasses both probable- and directed-lie variants. To the best of my knowledge, there is no polygraph format known by the acronym MQT. Perhaps you are thinking of the MGQT (Modified General Question Test)? This is a variant of the probable-lie CQT.

A review of Chapter 3 of The Lie Behind the Lie Detector should help you to recognize any basic polygraph screening format with which you might be confronted (probable or directed-lie CQT or R/I).
