Hey PAQ,

I live in San Bernardino County and have some friends who work for the Sheriff's Department.  It is a good department with alot of different and varied assignments.  In addition for being responsible for law enforcement in the unincorporated areas, the department is also the police department for most cities in the county (e.g., Chino Hills, Rancho Cucamonga and Highland to name a few).  The county is HUGE.  In fact, if you are so inclined, once you finish your custody time, you can even work in Needles, which is very near Laughlin and Lake Havasu.  From what I understand, the department is also willing to hire applicants without law enforcement experience as recruits and send them to the academy as a full-time paid employee.  Not a bad deal, getting paid to be trained as a LEO.  Good luck.
