Title: Personal Relationship Test
Post by: jadea on Jul 17, 2005, 01:57 PM
My boyfrien of 5 years wants me to take a test because he believes I have lied about cheating on him.  I  will pass that question, but there are few people in my past when we were seperated i dont see any point in him knowing.  It was a mistake, in the past.  We would be married if it wasn't for this, and i have to pass this test. Please help! ??? ???

Jadea:

Just because you tell the truth during a polygraph test does not mean that you will be deemed truthful--they do not detect deception. DON'T TAKE ONE. If I were you, I'd get a new boyfriend. Be thankful that you are not married to a guy who doesn't trust you. Sounds like a control freak--run like hell!

This is probably not the answer you wanted, but a relationship with someone who doesn't trust you is doomed.  Don't marry him and don't continue to see him.  It just isn't going to work out.  I suspect you already know this but are looking for some sort of miracle to happen.

Anyway, the polygraph exam you mentioned is not a good idea.  Whether you are truthful has no bearing on passing or failing the exam.  You could tell the absolute truth and fail.  You could lie on every question and still pass.  The polygraph is absolutely worthless as a tool for determining deception or truth.

Jadea, It's a GOOD thing your not married to him, not a bad thing! If you think things are going to get better if you marry him your WRONG! Things will get worse!
Take the opportunity to walk away and tell him to shove the poly! The poly won't prove anything! DON'T THINK FOR ONE MINUTE THAT THERE'S NOBODY BETTER  THAN HIM!!! That's just what he wants you to believe. Dump him and you'll see the line of better guys waiting for you! I know, I know...."but I LOOOOVE him!"
Suck it up and do it. The BEST things are sometimes the hardest to do. You'll definately be glad you did down the line.
This comes from a cop that's been married one time to one woman for over 25yrs......with my line of work, that may be a record!

JEEEZ guys,  now I feel like Dear Abby...maybe I should just write a damn book
