Title: Past drug usage
Post by: Matt_Payne on Jan 16, 2005, 05:07 AM
I am considering applying for a reserve Police Officer program with a large California police department and was wondering if I disclosed that I reluctantly tried Ecstasy 4 years ago will rein my chances. It was a mistake in judgement but other than that I should be a much desired candidate. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks!

this all depends on the dept. as well as the standards set forth by the state LE licensing agecy.

Personally my answer is yes, it will affect your chances greatly.

good luck

I would suggest that you apply to a department that does not polygraph, there are more then you think out there. In addition there are some departments that have a more laxed drug usage history statement. I have a friend that was polygraphed in regards to the last 3 years have you used any illegal drugs. So don't give up, just because you made some mistakes when you were a kid doesn't rule you out. Look around, if you work hard enough and keep your nose clean it can happen.
