My family was recently robbed. we had no leads so the cops are saying it was an inside job. because of theis the insurance company is requesting a polygraph test. i really shouldn't have anything to worry about because i did not steal from my familybut i am have to go through the test any way. this still has me slightly worried though because i am very inclined to over react and freakout at stuff. just typing this i can tell you that i am sweating and have an elevated heart rate, cheeks are burning...i really have no idea how i can try to stay calm...so i have a few questions...
First are there any tips for an over paraniod 18 yr old/?
Second is this test legallly binding? or is it simply for the insurance company?
Third if i fail the test is this enough evidence to convict me?
any help that i can get from anyone will be greatly apreiciated
1) You are under no obligation to submit to any polygraph "test," and you would be wise to refuse it.
2) Polygraph results are generally not admissible as evidence in a court of law, although in some cases they may be admitted if both the prosecution and the defense consent to it. Again, because polygraph "testing" has no scientific basis and frequently results in truthful persons being wrongly accused of deception, you would be wise to reject the polygraph. Your insurance company cannot require you to submit to this pseudoscientific procedure.
3) No. Again, polygraph results are generally inadmissible. However, many in law enforcement swear by the polygraph, and failing one may convince investigators that you are the perpetrator.
