Title: Control or Relevant?
Post by: AngryJerry on Jan 21, 2004, 03:56 PM
Not to offend anyone's sensibilities but the following is a actual poly question someone was asked.

"Have you ever masturbated while driving?"

Now how could this be a relevant question? Is this something that has proven to be a problem and they need to ask during screening?

But how could it be a control question either? Surely no one can assume that enough people have masturbated while driving to use this as a control question.

Another one was "Have you ever had sex with a dead person?"

I kid you not I read that someone was asked this and the source was credible enough that it is for real. What's up with these questions?

AngryJerry,

In the context of a pre-employment polygraph examination, these would be examples of "shock control" questions (even though admissions in response to them might well lead to disqualification).

wow OMG would they ask a FEMALE a question like this? Seems they could come up with some other type of shock question.

What if a polygraph examiner is male, around 50 and he asks a female examinee, this type of question? Is this not sexual harassment? I know something about sexual harassment and I as a female would, be very offended and want to take it to an authority after the interrogation was over....but I hold back and I'd have to 'try NOT to laugh' at that question and answer, of course I have, many times and it's not as easy to do driving, as a male. Which leads me to make a new post. I have some questions that hopefully someone can answer.

I suppose if it was a male interviewer interrogating a female applicant they would probably exercise more discretion. That said, the question isn't any less objectional to me even if the interrogator is male. If I ever got asked either of these I'd be tempted to ask him what the relevance is. Not sure how well that would go over though.
