CI-, or counterintelligence-scope polygraph examinations cover questions such as whether the subject has disclosed classified information to unauthorized persons, had unauthorized contacts with representatives of a foreign government, or been directed by someone to seek employment with a U.S. agency.

So-called "lifestyle" polygraph examinations go beyond the subject matter of CI-scope polygraph examinations and may include questions about drug use, undetected felony crimes, and, in some cases, sexual conduct.
