Title: States without polygraphs?????
Post by: Lisa Smith on Jun 16, 2003, 07:27 PM
Does anyone know which states do not perform polygraphs as part of sex offender treatment?  My husband cannot pass the polygraph due to health problems.  Thanks for any assistance you can give us.

What is the nature of the medical conditon that would preclude your husband from passing a polygraph, and from what source did you gain that information?

Lisa,
First of all, your husband should not be required to sit for a polygraph if he has physical disabilities that affect the results. As for states that don't polygraph, I understand that there are 39 that do and 13 that don't. Some states, like Florida, have no specifically mandated treatment program but do require an annual polygraph as a part of any treatment program. In theory, when the offender is successfully discharged from treatment, the polygraphs end.
The most informative documentation I know of on the subject of sex offender treatment programs was done by the Colorado Department of Corrections, and it covers all 50 states and Washington DC. You can find it here:
http://www.doc.state.co.us/admin_reg/PDFs/SO-report-send2.pdf
Note that it is a pdf file, so you will need Adobe Acrobat to read it. Also, it is 435 pages long, so it may take some time to load.
Somewhere within all of those pages you will find what states do and what states don't do polygraphs on sex offenders.

Orolan

I've noticed you're always on the Post-Offender Polygraph Testing thread.  Is there any correlation.  Maybe George could run a study and give us some probabilities.

My husband suffers from hypertension.  I believe he is also manic depressive although he has not been clinically diagnosed.

Saidme,
If you were to look through the various boards, you would see that I am an equal-opportunity poster. And I see no reason to justify how and why I know so much about sex offenders, sex offender law and sex offender psychology to the likes of you. Now go away. You bore me.

LisaSmith,
Even with your husband's conditions, the "Sting" method would still work.
Look it up on the internet and print the book out.
