Title: quarterly maintenance poly for LE
Post by: suethem on May 23, 2003, 10:42 PM
I wonder what would happen if there was a quarterly maintenance polygraph requirement for all LE jobs?

1st quarter -Relevant/Irrelevant

2nd quarter- PLCQT

3rd quarter- Secret Service Shock and Awe Polygraph
(also known as polygraph Redux II)
                     (ear protection not optional!!)

4th quarter- MOABS (Mother of all BS) Polygraph

Fail one- your fired!!

That way the 15% false positive rate would eventually catch up with everyone.  No one would ever stay in LE that long, so all the money for pay raises, retirement, etc could be saved for more polygraphs!!

I think after a few chiefs or supervisory special agents failed there would be a press confrence denouncing the polygraph as junk science.--"Uhh, if Congress says they won't take one, why should we?"

suethem,
Good idea, but I have a better, cheaper one. Make the polygraphers take the quarterly maintenance exams. Of course some controls would need to be in place to prevent the examiner from being unfairly biased in favor of his fellow polygrapher. Perhaps "blind" testing, wherein the polygrapher to be examined is simply inserted within a group of job applicants.
This would be very cost-effective, as there are a lot less of them to examine. Wonder how many would be left after 1 year?
