Title: Fail here,  pass there!!
Post by: suethem on May 13, 2003, 04:43 PM
I often hear that failing one poly is the death of your LE dream.  I dont agree that this is always the case.

My friend took two polygraph exams with different branches of military intelligence and 'failed' both.  No job offer there.

Later on he took one with one for an 1811 criminal investigator job with the gov and passed with flying colors.

I asked him what he did different and he said, "nothing."  Same basic questions and everything.  He also told me that the polygrapher from his field office has no friends and has to eat his lunch alone.  The polygrapher never goes on any raids and took the poly position because he couldn't handle cases- No big surprise!!

I have another friend who got an 1811 slot after failing three poly exams with the same agency (the one he ultimately got a job with).  He simply used the 'never break' theory.  He refused to give any ground!!

I am writing this so that first timers who fail won't give up.   If you have to, get in where they don't polygraph. Do a good job and then try to move on.  Simply giving in after some  says no, is whimpy.  You would not stop trying to kick in a door if it didn't cave in on the first couple of tries would you?  Same idea here.  LE has a range of jobs to fill, from mall security to Special double secret agent.  They are all important!!! Get in, move up and on!!!

File appeals, fight it, write Congress.  I have- but I also have kept on with my applications.

What agency did your friend eventually get into?

Brian,

I am not going to name the specific agencies.  Lets just say that when they come for you they just yell their initials.....

Never give up!!!!
