If the background check includes investigators going out and talking randomly to people that knew you, then it might be found out. :(

When I was about 18 I had a psychiatric commitment ordered on me because my mom and our family friend who happens to be a therapist saw a post on my myspace and thought I was suicidal - I was not, it was just a stupid emo phase I went through to be in with the cool crowd.

Will this commitment show up in a background check for employment with state police? I have called the court that would have the record of my commitment but they said they destroy records after 3 years - my incident happened almost 9 years ago, so they have no record of it at all at the court system. I am worried that the police may have it in their contact records in their computers. Any suggestions? I figure I should just go ahead and apply, and if they catch my bluff I'll just say *oops* sorry. If they don't, then well, I will proudly serve my community!  :)
