The question "Have you gone anywhere you weren't suppose to?" is often a control question for polygraphers conducting exams on probationers in sex offender treatment. This opinion is based on: 1) I have yet to see or hear of anyone "failing" this question; I've only seen people get hit for admitting to violations during the pre-test phase. 2) I've heard others tell me that their treatment team and/or therapist have told them that this question is never asked, meaning it isn't one of the relevant questions. 3) The question covers a lot of ground and causes a lot of doubt in the person's mind. Did I take an alternate route to work? Was that gas station approved or not? Etc.

Too bad the examiner didn't ask about access to the internet.  Now there is a question I never miss.

You do know you are in violation of your probation/parole conditions by not only being on the internet, but posting here is a huge violation?

I suggest reviewing chapter 3 of TLBTLD.

Good luck with your treatment.

I'm over thinking this. They have been on my back for the porn not the other questions. The others have to be control otherwise what would they score against. Im dropping it and Ill wait and see. Ive had so many no decisions Im eager to get past this. Thanx for the help though.

Are you sitting down? Have you lied to your team since beginning? Have you had any deviant sexual thoughts? Besides what you told me have you viewed any porn? Have you gone to any unapproved places? Besides what you told me Have you viewed any nudity? and the first chart Do you plan on telling the truth?
The porn questions I think are relevant and the others I think are control. Yes they are parts of conditions but they have to have something to compare? The conditions questions were vague not specific just the porn ones were specific. This was my thinking. Previous to this they asked other questions but now those questions arent there.

Me 2,

Lying to the "powers to be" is a Control Question. Example: If someone in "power" asked you how their dress/hair/clothes looked and you said "just fine" to be nice, when in actuality they looked horrible, then it would be a "lie." It's too open ended and would encompass anything that was not TOTALLY the truth.

The relevant questions should be precise, requiring no deliberation: looking at porn, viewing nudity, un-reported deviant thoughts--you either did or didn't.

However, I think that had you "failed" the polygraph, you would have been confronted with a post test interrogation.

Try to provide the entire question set with the exact wording.

I would have to see the exact wording of the questions, but can offer the following based on what you reported:

Have you lied to [the] powers to be? - Control Question (possible Sacrifice Relevant depending on its position, but probably not)

Are you sitting down? - Irrelevant Question

Have you gone anywhere you weren't supposed to? - Relevant Question, (assuming such restrictions were clearly delineated to you by the treatment provider).

Other than what you told me have you looked at porn? - Relevant Question

Have you had any [unreported?] deviant sex[ual] thoughts? Relevant Question

Other than what you told me have you have you viewed any nudity? - Relevant Question

I see there is a bunch of views. The questions I had were are you sitting down? Have you lied to powers? Have you gone anywhere you weren't suppose to? Other than what you told me have you looked at porn? Have you had any deviant sex thoughts? Other than what you told me have you have you viewed any nudity?

No only thing he said was nothing was screaming at him. Hope that means nothing bad was screaming. There was the usual did you have any problems any questions and I said no. I was joking with him and he was smiling. I was wondering did I read the cq questions right. Is have you lied since beginning treatment to the powers a control question? And the other two any deviant sex thoughts and out of place are def control. But the lying to powers isnt good either. The cq are messed cuz you dont want them to think youre doing those things. But they are broad and vague so that makes me think they are the cq.

You are right, you didn't mention that in your original post.  Did the polygraph operator not tell you the results right afterwards? Was there any sort of pressure to elicit admissions?

What makes you think I was lying? My previous test were inconclusive. I spoke the truth every time. I was tired of not passing.

Me2,

I suggest only using countermeasures to ensure you are not falsely accused of lying. Trying to pull the wool over the eyes of your treatment provider is not a good idea. Be positive about your treatment and follow the rules and your life will be much happier and less stressful. If you feel you have something to hide that may put you into legal jeopardy, it'd be best to discuss it with your attorney.

Ok just took my 6th maintenance poly. Didnt read the lie until late. Used cm during what I think are the cq. Have you lied to the powers that be have been some where youre not to be any deviant sex thoughts. The only others were have you looked at porn x2 and R u sitting down. Everyone has been brow beating about admitting to looking at porn. Not any of the cq taht were asked. What are your thoughts? I feel I nailed it. I looked professional and was in a good mood.
